On Sunday, I was invited to Patricia’s place to do some cooking. I have noticed in my previous posts that I talk about food most of the time… So if you are wondering, yes, I am eating all the time…

 
So, Patricia showed me how to make Karjalanpiirakka with munavoi… a Finish dish which I really liked. It was fun to prepare the dough and then make them. We had the help of her little dog which is called… Lara! We had (exotic) tea and talked about music, art, travelling, cooking, languages… I absolutely loved it. THANKS!

Dimanche, j’étais invitée à aller chez Patricia pour cuisiner. J’ai remarqué dans mes articles précédents que je parle de nourriture la plupart du temps… Donc si vous vous posez la question, oui, je mange tout le temps…


Patricia m’a appris à faire des Karjalanpiirakka avec du munavoi… Un plat finlandais que j’ai beaucoup aimé. Préparer la pâte avant de les faire était vraiment super. Nous avons eu de l’aide de la part de son petit chien qui s’appelle… Lara ! Nous avons bu du thé (exotique) et parlé de musique, d’art, de voyages, de cuisine, des langues… J’ai tout simplement adoré. MERCI !

On Friday, most of the lecturers did not teach… But I had general translation and Patricia had English… So we decided to meet when we finished in order to go and buy special flour for cooking. We went to the casino first where there is a painting exhibition by Marcial Zambrana, with oils from the region. We were completely seduced by the accuracy of the details and, of course, by the place itself.

We visited the casino, but this time entirely. It was like a dream!!! Probably one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Then, we met the painter who gave us explanation about his work. An amazing artistic evening!

 
Le vendredi, la plupart des professeurs ne donnaient pas leurs cours… Mais j’avais traduction générale et Patricia avait anglais… Nous avons donc décidé de nous voir quand nous finissions pour aller acheter de la farine spéciale pour cuisiner. Nous nous sommes d’abord rendues au casino, où il y avait une exposition de peinture de l’artiste Marcial Zambrana, avec des toiles à l’huile de la région. La précision des détails nous a séduites, ainsi que le lieu en lui-même.

Nous avons visité le casino, mais cette fois entièrement. C’était comme un rêve !!! Probablement un des endroits les plus beaux que j’aie jamais vus. Ensuite, nous avons rencontré le peintre, qui nous a donné des explications sur ses toiles. Une superbe soirée artistique !

Normally, Halloween means pumpkin soup. So we all went to Caro’s flat to make some. There were twelve of us so the cooking part was fun… although the knives were not that sharp and so not ideal to cut pumpkin, carrots and potatoes… Caro also had the idea to prepare chestnuts, which were lovely, and Patricia brought a Spanish specialty for pudding: matasuegras. Delicious!

We were very international: German, Austrian, Spanish, Polish, Belgian, French and Swiss… A good mix! After dinner we watched a film (nothing to do with Halloween): Dear John… Another lovely evening, thank you all girls!


 
Normalement, Halloween signifie soupe à la courge. Nous sommes donc toutes allées chez Caro pour en faire. Nous étions douze, ce qui fait que la partie cuisine était très drôle… même si les couteaux n’étaient pas très aiguisés, ce qui n’est pas idéal pour couper de la courge, des pommes de terre et des carottes… Caro a aussi eu l’idée de préparer des châtaignes, qui étaient délicieuse, et Patricia a amené une spécialité espagnole pour le dessert : des matasuegras. Excellent !

Nous étions très internationales : allemandes, autrichiennes, espagnoles, polonaise, belges, françaises et suisse… Un joli mélange ! Après le repas, nous avons regardé un film (rien à voir avec Halloween) : Cher John… Une autre soirée super, merci à toutes, les filles !

Wednesday is Halloween and as Thursday is the Day of all Saints and there is no class, we have plans to celebrate. First of all, in the afternoon, during the break, we go to Little miss cupcakes for tea… Unfortunately, we had to rush a little as we had class (sorry, madam, I had to eat my cupcake and my tea was too hot) but it was amazing. I had a vanilla one with violet and a grenade tea, but to be honest all of them were yummy.

 
And so in the evening Agata and I dressed up (in witches, but I have not got any photo of myself) and went to her university friends to celebrate. It was a very nice party: the flat was extremely well decorated, we had pizza, crisps and sweets (very healthy), and we played a version of the werewolves of Millers Hollow and another game. It was great fun, thanks to all of you!


Mercredi, c’est Halloween et comme jeudi est la Toussaint et que c’est un jour férié, nous avons des plans pour célébrer. Pour commencer, dans l’après-midi, pendant la pause, nous allons à Little miss cupcake pour le goûter… Malheureusement, nous avons dû nous dépêcher un peu puisqu’on avait cours (désolée, madame, il fallait que je mange mon cupcake et mon thé était trop chaud) mais c’était incroyable. J’en ai choisi un à la vanille avec de la violette, et un thé à la grenade, mais tous étaient délicieux.


Et le soir, Agata et moi nous sommes déguisées (en sorcières, mais je n’ai pas de photos de moi) et nous sommes allées chez ses amis de l’université pour fêter. C’était une fête très sympa : l’appartement était très bien décoré, nous avons mangé de la pizza, des chips et des bonbons (très sain) et nous avons joué à une version des loups-garous de Thiercelieux et à un autre jeu. Très marrant, merci à tous !

 

In the evening, we decided to go to the cinema with Caro, Silvia, Marine and Camille to watch « lo imposible » (The impossible). I must say it is probably one of the most impressive films I have ever watched: it is based on the true story of a Spanish family who was in Thailand in 2004 and got caught in the tsunami. The story itself is amazing, as we see how perfect moments turn into hell, and thinking that it is what a family has really lived is… impossible to imagine. I cannot find the words to talk about it, so I encourage you to go and see for yourself. Really!




Le soir, nous avons décidé d’aller au cinéma avec Caro, Silvia, Marine et Camille pour voir « lo impossible ». Je dois dire que c’est probablement un des films les plus impressionnants que j’aie jamais vus : il est basé sur l’histoire vraie d’une famille espagnole qui était en Thaïlande en 2004 et s’est fait prendre dans le tsunami. L’histoire en elle-même est incroyable ; on voit comment des instants parfaits se transforment en enfer, et penser qu’une famille l’a réellement vécu est… impossible à se représenter. Je ne trouve pas les mots pour en parler, donc je vous encourage à aller le voir vous-mêmes. Vraiment !

To finish the day, we went for a little bit of shopping in the streets close to university. Patricia had seen the facebook page of a lovely shop called “Julieta sin Romeo” and so we looked for it… They have such a lot of nice things, it is incredible: mugs, jewellery, notebooks, posters… and lots more. Luckily, Patricia had her camera... So did I, but with no battery. The owners had organised an aperitif and so we were invited to have food and drink. An amazing day with an amazing girl!


Pour terminer la journée, nous sommes allées faire un peu se shopping dans les rues près de l’université. Patricia avait vu la page facebook d’un super magasin, « Julieta sin Romeo », et nous l’avons donc cherché… Ils ont un nombre incroyables de choses : tasses, bijoux, cahiers, posters… et beaucoup d’autres choses. Heureusement, Patricia avait son appareil photo... Moi aussi, mais sans batterie. Les propriétaires avaient organisé un apéritif et nous avons donc été invitées à boire et manger quelque chose. Une journée extraordinaire avec une fille extraordinaire !

As the weather was nice again, we went for a walk… With an aim of course: an art shop, which was luckily closed (otherwise I might have spent a real fortune there) and then the Piccadilly Coffee… As it was tea time, we had… a coffee. And a cheese and blueberry muffin which was DELICIOUS!

 
Comme il faisait de nouveau beau, nous sommes allées nous promener… Avec un but, évidemment : un magasin d’art, qui était heureusement fermé (sinon, j’aurais probablement dépensé une petite fortune là-bas) en ensuite le Piccadilly Coffee… Comme c’était l’heure du thé, nous avons bu… un café. Et mangé un muffin au fromage et aux myrtilles qui était DÉLICIEUX !

In Murcia, there is an exhibition just on the street next to where I live: sweets representing various countries, designed by French artist Laurence Jenkell. Patricia and I decided to go and have a look. There are about twenty different sweets and on each of them information about the country. Spain, France, Australia, Russia, Japan, North Korea, Mexico, Canada, Germany, Great Britain… Even the European Union, but not Switzerland… The exhibition looks great!


A Murcie, il y a une exposition dans la rue juste à côté d’où j’habite : des bonbons représentant différents pays, créés par l’artiste française Laurence Jenkell. Patricia et moi avons décidé d’aller la voir. Il y a une vingtaine de bonbons et sur chacun d’entre eux figure des informations sur le pays. Espagne, France, Australie, Russie, Japon, Corée du Nord, Mexique, Canada, Allemagne, Grande-Bretagne… Et même l’Union européenne, mais pas la Suisse… L’exposition est superbe !

There are various language tandems organised at university, but most of them take place on Mondays, so I cannot go because I’ve got the choir. So when Patricia, a friend from my international trade translation class, told me that there was one on Tuesdays as well, I decided to go with her. Unfortunately, there were too many people around the tables so after a little while, we decided to go and do our own tandem. Patricia showed me an amazing tea room in Arabian style. I loved it! And so we practised Spanish, French, English and a little bit of German…


Il y a plusieurs tandems de langue à l’université, mais la plupart ont lieu le lundi, et je ne peux donc pas y aller parce que j’ai la chorale. Du coup, quand Patricia, une amie de mon cours de traduction pour le commerce internationale m’a dit qu’il y en avait un le mardi aussi, j’ai décidé de l’accompagner. Malheureusement, il y avait trop de monde à la table et après un petit moment, nous avons donc décidé de partir et de faire notre propre tandem. Patricia m’a montré un salon de thé incroyable, dans un style arabe magnifique. J’ai adoré ! Et nous avons donc pratiqué notre espagnol, français, anglais et un peu d’allemand…

As the weather was not great in the weekend, I had no motivation to do anything special. On Sunday, it was Camille’s birthday, so we went to her flat to eat crepes and lovely chocolate cake. It was a very nice afternoon! In the evening, we all decided to go the ESN movie together. We watched “Fuera de carta” (in English, Chef’s special) which was really funny, although some of the jokes were not that easy to understand…



 Comme le temps n’était pas super durant le week-end, je n’étais pas motivée à faire quelque chose de spécial. Dimanche, c’était l’anniversaire de Camille, qui nous avait invitées à son appartement pour manger des crêpes et un délicieux gâteau au chocolat. C’était un super après-midi ! Le soir, nous avons toutes décidé d’aller au cinéma ESN ensemble. Nous avons vu « Fuera de carta » (A la carte en français) qui était très drôle, même si certaines plaisanteries n’étaient pas très simples à comprendre…

On Friday evening, after my class, I went to the bull arena to see concerts. The association BUM organises various cultural events for students and, on that evening, there were five different concerts. Unfortunately, I missed the beginning because I only finished class at 9pm, but I enjoyed it a lot. I liked most of the bands – the Leadings, Delorentos, Lori Meyers – but I was not that convinced by Wilco. I met Caro, Stella, Marine and Camille which had reserved a seat for me, which was quite lucky because it was raining quite a lot… and pouring down at the end of the evening. Luckily, the music kept us warm!


Vendredi soir, après les cours, je suis allée voir un concert à l’arène des taureaux. L’association BUM organise des événements culturels variés pour les étudiants et, ce soir là, il y avait cinq concerts différents. Malheureusement, j’ai manqué le début parce que j’ai fini les cours à 21h seulement, mais j’ai bien aimé. La plupart des groupes m’ont plu – the Leadings, Delorentos, Lori Meyers – mais Wilco ne m’a pas convaincue. J’ai retrouvé Caro, Stella, Marin et Camille qui m’avaient réservé une place, ce qui était très agréable vu qu’il pleuvait pas mal… et qu’il tombait des cordes à la fin de la soirée… Heureusement, la musique nous empêchait d’avoir froid !
